PRICES & ORDER

Non-binding price request / Direct purchase – Delivery CH-wide

K. Schmied AG – Containers & Shipping SwitzerlandPRICES & ORDER

Since 1979 – Prices, availability and delivery explained clearly

Reputable, transparent, reliable – that's what we've stood for for decades. Here you will find the most important answers. Details can be expanded.

Tip for comparing prices: always check the total costs (container, delivery, crane, VAT) and compare the location of the goods (from a UK terminal or abroad). If prices are significantly lower, it is worth taking a closer look at the details.

Offers & Prices
How long will it take to receive a quote?

You will usually receive your quote on the same day – within 24–48 hours at the latest (Monday to Friday, office hours).

If your enquiry is urgent, please give us a quick call – we will prioritise it and process it particularly quickly.

Why do I see fixed prices, recommended prices or ‘on request’?

Briefly: Standard models have fixed prices. Recommended prices serve as a guide. We calculate special containers individually – for market-driven conditions.

↳ More

Container prices vary depending on type, condition, colour, location and demand. They change regularly – sometimes monthly, and in certain market phases even weekly. We always calculate delivery costs and crane unloading individually and transparently.

↳ Even more 🙂

Container prices depend on many factors: availability, supplier, location, colour, quality and exchange rates. Recommended prices are therefore an honest guide; fixed prices are mainly for popular models. We calculate on a daily basis – transparently and fairly, instead of confusing customers with bait pricing.

How do we ensure fair and competitive prices?

Briefly: No own warehouse with expensive old stock. We procure flexibly via our Europe-wide and Switzerland-wide network – this keeps prices current and fair.

↳ More

With no fixed storage costs and no pressure to reduce stock, we can make you the right offer depending on location, supplier and quality (new/used) – including repainting, logos or lettering on request.

↳ Even more 🙂

The market is driven by demand, overcapacity or bottlenecks. Exchange rates also play a role. We use our network to secure market-driven conditions at all times – transparent and fair.

Why do some online prices seem extremely cheap?

↳ More

Many online prices do not take important costs into account. Unless otherwise stated, our prices are valid from the CH terminal (duty paid) and are correctly imported; VAT is shown separately.

When ‘free delivery’ appears in product feeds/carousels, a closer look often reveals that sea containers are pick-up prices from CH or EU terminals – delivery is then not included. This may be related to shop/merchant centre settings and is not necessarily intentional.

If in doubt, ask for a binding fixed price for your postcode (including optional crane unloading) and check the company's credibility.

Information on bait advertising/fake shops (external link)

↳ Even more 🙂

We clearly state the delivery location, additional costs and options in our quotations – including separate details of delivery costs based on postcode/distance and optional crane unloading. This means there are no surprises.

How do we differ in terms of service?
  • Swiss partner for delivery & crane – precise scheduling, knowledge of local regulations.
  • Transparent quotes including delivery location, additional costs and options – no bait pricing.
  • Availability & responsibility – advice before and after delivery.
Delivery & Unloading
How are delivery and unloading costs calculated – and how do we plan?

Briefly: These are determined by distance, quantity/combination, container type/size, unloading distance/height and local conditions. Delivery with Swiss freight carriers; options clearly stated. We can unload 40' containers with a suitable crane – we will organise this for you.

↳ More
  • Distance between terminal/depot and location; waiting times.
  • Combination: 2×20' in one trip is often cheaper per item than 1×20' twice.
  • Reach/height: 40' usually requires a larger crane than 20'.
  • Unloading point: directly next to lorry vs. further away/over obstacle.
  • Access/space: width/height, turning space, surface; additional costs possible.
  • Options: additional crane time, permits, fixed dates/express.

We provide placement tips and clarify the appropriate crane solution in advance – especially for 40' containers.

↳ delivery times

We deliver most standard containers within approximately 2–3 weeks. Express delivery is also available for certain models – usually within 2–5 working days or 7–10 days (at an additional cost).

Condition, service life & stackability
Condition & service life: ‘NEW/as new (1 trip)’ vs. second-hand

Briefly: ‘NEW/as new’ refers to factory-new shipping containers that have only been loaded once and shipped from Asia to Europe (1 trip). Technically new, with minimal signs of handling possible.

↳ More (Care & Use)

In maritime transport, many vessels are decommissioned after approximately 10–15 years for economic reasons; in stationary use, they can be used for significantly longer, depending on their condition and maintenance.

Second-hand/used: The remaining service life depends heavily on the initial condition and use. Well-maintained used containers can often still be put to good use for many years in a stationary location.

Practical tip: A ventilated, slightly raised structure (point/strip foundations) protects the floor frame; treat rust spots early on; keep an eye on the roof seal.

How many shipping containers can be stacked – what needs to be considered?

Briefly: Load-bearing capacity via corner castings. Designed for multiple stacking with valid CSC. Stationary: 2 high standard; 3 high depending on substrate/wind/securing – check statically.

↳ Important information
  • Only stack using corner fittings; never carry over side walls/cross beams.
  • Use twist locks/stacking solutions; secure against shifting/tipping.
  • Stable, level surface; check condition/corner fittings; static verification required for 3 or more units high.

Guideline values for stationary applications. Depends on individual circumstances (substrate, wind, payload, condition).

Categories & CSC
Shipping containers vs. storage containers – which is suitable for what?

Briefly: Sea containers: standardised, very robust and usually with CSC certification – for international transport and demanding applications. Storage containers: primarily for stationary storage – no CSC certification required.

↳ More (shop logic)
  • Filter ‘Sea containers’: CSC-approved units suitable for international shipping.
  • Filter ‘Storage containers’: Sea containers for storage purposes (some with CSC) + other storage solutions (e.g. quick-build containers without CSC).

CSC is required for export/rail/sea transport (alternatively ACEP). Not required for storage purposes only.

↳ Even more 🙂 (Materials & Standards > SHIPPING CONTAINER)
  • Corten steel (weathering steel): Generally applies to NEW or 1-trip ISO sea containers. High-strength, weather-resistant steel that forms a protective patina – ideal for long-term outdoor use. Note: Older/used shipping containers may also be made of Corten steel, but this cannot be guaranteed. Quick-build and other storage containers are not usually made of Corten steel.
  • ISO standardised: Dimensions/fittings in accordance with ISO 668/1496; robust corner fittings (corner castings), stacking and lifting points; compatible with twist locks/cranes/forklifts – standardised worldwide.
  • Tightness & stability: Profiled side walls, steel frame, marine doors with seals – windproof and waterproof, designed for heavy loads and stacking.
  • Why is it still inexpensive? Standard shipping containers are produced in very large quantities – economies of scale. As a result, despite their quality and standardisation, they are often cheaper than custom-made special storage solutions.

Conclusion: Sea containers are usually the most economical choice for robust, durable and reusable units.

Options & Modifications
Options & modifications – paintwork, lettering, additional equipment

Briefly: On request: paint finish (RAL), logos/lettering, additional ventilation, doors/windows and minor modifications via partner companies.

↳ More

Costs depend on type/effort. We advise on what makes sense technically and fits visually.

How can you recognise reputable providers – and how can you pay securely?

Brief (seriousness): On the market since 1979, own office in Switzerland, payments exclusively to our official company account (K. SCHMIED internat. Transporte & Handels AG).

↳ More (seriousness)

Detailed, realistic quotes; no payments to third parties/dubious accounts. HR/VAT number available; reviews on Google and local.ch.

↳ More (secure payment)

  • No third-party/trust accounts, no TWINT/crypto.
  • We do not change bank details by email – if you have any questions, please call us.
